...here’s everything wrong with my 70,000 mile 2002 S10.
-paint scratches and blemishes on the truck in multiple places. Not M3 paint bad, and most of which would probably come out with a claybar and polish. The outer bed panels and tail gate have the grunt of it (obviously.)
-the oil pressure gauge still doesn’t function and has the “check gauges” light basically permanently illuminated.
-the shifter throws are so long and far apart they probably have their own zip codes. Need short throw shifter something serious.
-the left front suspension squeaks over hard bumps. Something probably just needs greasing.
-rear axle damper is bad so it axle hops like a mofo if you spin the tires for more than a short chirp. It’s cheapish and easy to replace but lazy.
-the third brake light cover is slightly melted because the bulbs get so hot. All S10s do it as far as I can tell. I got one from an extended cab Sonoma but it was slightly longer than my single cab one? GM logic.
-grille is faded and needs to be repainted black. No big deal honestly, just a time (read:lazy) thing.
Those are all such non-issues really. I luv my little S10.

the long throws were my favorite part of my S10, that meant i chirped third with a 2.8l V6

I will say it makes teaching manual slightly easier because a lot of people tend to exaggerate their shifts waaaay past where a normal shifter would go.

I had a Sonoma. It was a great truck when it was running. When it wasn’t, I wanted to set fire to it.

Fingers crossed its reliable. My parents have owned a ‘94 Safari for the last 18 years and it's been the most reliable car they've ever owned. Same basic drivetrain and suspension components so hopefully that reliability carries over to this.

You get to look cool shifting from the elbow instead of the wrist

I had a fuel pump shit the bed on my ‘02 S10 right around 70k and strand me. Fortunately it was in the parking lot of a microbrew/brick-oven pizza joint I was at for dinner so I just started drinking since I wasn’t going to be driving at that point. You may want to preemptively swap that out if/when you have it up in the air for the suspension work.

I lost my virginity in an identical truck. Good times.

that’s a nice list of non-issues, which impesses me because it means everything not on that list works great. Creampuff 4 sho
